To begin the process, you’ll come and see Dr. Smith for a consultation. She will discuss your options for restorative dentistry, including dental implants. If you’re approved for treatment, you may also need preparatory surgeries such as extraction to remove damaged teeth, or bone grafting to strengthen your jaw before surgery.
You’ll work with an oral surgeon to have your implants placed. They will clean and numb your mouth, then create an opening in your gums and jaw, and place a dental implant precisely in the area where you’ve lost your missing tooth.
It only takes 1-2 weeks to heal from surgery, but it will take up to six months for your new implant to permanently bond with your jaw bone. You’ll come into our office for follow-ups during this time so that Dr. Smith can track your recovery and begin building your implant restoration.
Once your mouth is fully healed, you’ll come back to our office for the final placement of your implant restoration. Dr. Smith will check your dental crown to make sure it fits perfectly. Then, she will bond it to your dental implant permanently, completing the procedure and restoring your smile.
At Overhill Dental, we work closely with our partner oral surgeons in Los Angeles to provide single-tooth implant restorations. After your implant placement surgery, you’ll come to our office for future treatment. Dr. Smith will monitor your recovery as you heal. And once you’ve recovered fully, she will place a natural, tooth-like dental crown that will restore your smile, your bite, and your self-confidence.
As part of every six-month visit to our office, we offer dental implant maintenance. Dr. Smith will clean and check your dental implants to make sure they're in good shape. Along with good at-home oral hygiene and a tooth-healthy diet, this helps keep your implants in great shape and maximizes their lifespan, too.
For most patients, it takes 3-6 months for dental implants to fully heal and bond with the jaw bone. As you heal, you’ll come in for checkups with Dr. Smith so that she can check your progress. Once your implants have settled and fully integrated with your jaw bone, you can get your permanent dental crown and restore your smile.
Dental implants last 30+ years with proper care. If you’re taking good care of your mouth, you can expect your dental implant to last you for the rest of your life. This makes dental implants the best long-term restorative dentistry option in South Los Angeles if you’re missing one or more teeth.
